What Your Dues Support

Members’ support enables the association to undertake field-shaping projects, such as a teaching resource page and a database of graduate student projects, that serve ISSS membership as well as advocate for the field(s) of surrealism studies and its members. Your dues allow the ISSS to collaborate with host institutions to sponsor annual conferences, as well as to build funds to support graduate students, NTT faculty, and independent artist/scholar travel to such events.

Membership Benefits

• Eligibility to register for and participate in the annual ISSS conference and other ISSS-sponsored events.
• Regular updates on call for papers, surrealism-related news, exhibitions, publications, and events from around the world.
• Eligibility to vote in ISSS elections and to nominate members, or self-nominate, for officer positions.
• Eligibility to apply for travel subvention (for graduate students, NTT, and/or independent scholar/artist members).
• One-year subscription to the print edition of the International Journal of Surrealism (IJS). Members may add a print subscription to IJS at a discounted rate. To receive the print journal, members must include a mailing address with their MemberPlanet payment.

International Journal of Surrealism (IJS)

Published twice annually by the University of Minnesota Press, the International Journal of Surrealism (IJS) is devoted to examining the intellectual, aesthetic, political, and cultural repercussions of surrealism across literature, art, photography, film, performance, music, philosophy, political thought, and new media.

IJS Coda, hosted by the University of Minnesota Press on Manifold, extends the print and Project MUSE editions of the journal with open-access interviews, visual and audio materials, features on contemporary artists, and reviews of recent books and exhibitions.

Annual Membership Rates:

Regular Membership: Full-time faculty and museum staff

• Regular membership: $62 USD
• Regular membership and print subscription to the International Journal of Surrealism: $77 USD

Reduced Membership: Independent scholars and artists, NTT faculty, and students

• Reduced membership: $37 USD
• Reduced membership and print subscription to the International Journal of Surrealism: $52 USD

Supporting Membership: 50% of membership supports the ISSS travel fund

• Supporting membership: $112 USD
• Supporting membership and print subscription to the International Journal of Surrealism: $127 USD
